Smoke Certification Application Fees
If you are applying for a smoke certificate:
Applications received more than 10 business days prior to the closing/change of occupancy: $45.00 
Applications received fewer than 10 business days prior to the closing/change of occupancy: $90.00 
Applications received less than 48 hours prior: $161.00
Reinspection fee: $50.00
All payments are non-refundable.
Checks can be made payable to "Sussex County Treasurer"
 
N.J.A.C. 5:70-2.3 - Certificate of smoke and carbon monoxide alarm compliance (a) Before any one- and two-family or attached single family structure is sold, leased, or otherwise made subject to a change of occupancy for residential purposes, the owner shall obtain a certificate of smoke alarm, carbon monoxide alarm, and secondary power source identification, evidencing compliance with 5:70-4.19, from the appropriate enforcing agency.
